Innovation Review on Automotive Cybersecurity

This month, Autotech Council members open their doors to the public for a discussion on Automotive Cybersecurity. Join OEMs, suppliers, startups and VCs to discover innovation and opportunities in Cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity is on the critical path for the mobility industry. In a 2018 security survey and report of auto OEMs by Synopsys and SAE International, they found that:

  • 84% of OEMS have concerns that cybersecurity practices are not keeping pace with threats
  • 63% test less than half of hardware, software, and other tech for vulnerabilities
  • 30% still don’t have an established cybersecurity program or team.

But we’re not there yet. We are still looking for improvements in these areas and will highlight them in today’s meeting:

These numbers are a wake-up call, because it's one thing to have a vulnerable air-gapped vehicle, but once cars are connected to the cloud, they expose their soft underbelly to any hungry predator.

Our meeting on cybersecurity will include ideas around technology for better-securing connected vehicles, but we'll add another dimension: Modern cars (including shared rides and Autonomous Vehicles) are expected to be customized to our needs, and we're expected to be able to transact commerce from inside these cars, and these cars will always know their/our location. For this reason, the Autotech Council's meeting on cybersecurity will have an equal emphasis on the need to secure the important user data, Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and payment instruments attached to the car.

Join Autotech Council members for a public review of the challenges, opportunities, technologies and threats to the connected car, its passengers, their data and their privacy. As always, we'll have a strong representation of innovators and startups with their rapid-fire presentations, demo tables, the insight of analysts, and the views of some major stakeholders, and our premier networking.

    About Autotech Council Public Meetings:
The Autotech Council occasionally opens its doors to non-members to discover a segment of the auto industry that is attracting large amounts of innovation and investment. Public meetings are ½-day agendas that highlight a few vendors who are leading the segment and introduce dozens of undiscovered companies or technologies. Expect demos, startup pitches, plenty of time for networking, business discussions, and an interactive format that promotes relationships between member and non-member companies.
